教师培训 |Harvard CTC teaching methodology

Last week Julia and me represented all our IEP teachers to take part in a teaching seminar held by GZ EIL teachers institute. The seminar, whose core theory is Harvard CTC teaching methodology, began at 9 in the morning and ended at 6:30 in the afternoon. There are lots of excellent teachers from different famous middle schools in GZ invited to attend it so I was soon fascinated by the enthusiastic atmosphere when I arrived and saw all the teachers and three handsome trainer over there. 



The teachers sitting around me and composing a study group are from No.117 middle school, Zhiyong middle school and Zhenguang middle school. The names of three handsome trainers are Johnny and Cowgill who come from California, America and Mike whose hometown is in Shanghai and master degree is got in Britain. 



In my understanding after whole day’s workshop, CTC represents core teaching components, which focuses on two teaching parts, optimizing content and optimizing delivery. In general, teaching objectives and value alignment are two core components of optimizing content that it can help us solve the problem of what to teach. In addition, auditory presentation, visual presentation and physical activity are the three core components of optimizing delivery that it can help us solve the problem of how to teach.


The first part taught by Johnny aimed to impart us good teaching objectives which need to be specific, achievable and measurable.



The second part taught by Cowgill gave us some useful advice on how to deliver our teaching through visual presentation where distinguishing board work with colors, pictures and symbols, purposeful use and aesthetic effectiveness are all the methods we can use in our classes. 



The third part, auditory presentation, taught By Mike, aimed to clarify us that we should speak clearly, effectively and learn to change the teaching manner of TTT(teacher tale time) to STT(student talk time).


The next one was physical activity in which Mr. Cowgill used some vivid examples in imparting us how to use the space of the classroom according to the overview of classroom setup. Both teacher movement and student movement are the ways for us to motivate students.

The last part taught by Johnny was value alignment that could be classified into academic and non-academic ways. It is useful for our teaching when we are willing to make our students be aware of the significance of achieving teaching objectives.



Last Friday afternoon, at the beginning of our IEP routine teachers meeting, I was appreciated to share this CTC teaching methodology with our all IEP teachers. After listening my speech, I thought there will be a lot of sparks and new ideas emerging from their mind. No matter this theory I bought back was accepted or not, this was a very good opportunity for our IEP teaches to approach the most advanced teaching methodology in the world that can make the teaching idea of each of us closer to the global trend.
